Everypony deserves to feel like a princess for her birthday. What better way than your daughter and her friends teaming up to join the Mane Six on an epic adventure with this My Little Pony themed party.
Maximize your décor budget by concentrating your party space.
When hosting a party at your house you need to resist the temptation to fill the whole space with decorations. This is particularly true if you have an open floor plan where rooms transition into other rooms seamlessly. In this example we chose our dining room. The table made for a central place for the kids to be and we have a built-in buffet and china cabinet that worked as a perfect backdrop that not only complimented the theme but served as a landing spot for party favors and gifts.
Get creative with your canvas.
We knew we wanted to use the buffet and china cabinets as a backdrop, but thought dishes and a window didn’t quite fit the theme. The solution was pretty simple. I decided a rainbow streamer wall and posters of some of the characters would tie in the space and work as a simple backdrop for photos. Using several different colors of fringed garland from Zurchers Party Supply, I taped them side by side making a rainbow wall. I then topped it with white tissue poms that looked like clouds, but also hid the tape. To complete the look (and hide the edges and tape) I took the same fringe garland and lined the prints.
Mix heights and colors to attract the eye to details.
As far as the table scape goes I wanted there to be lots of color and different heights. Varying the landscape adds depth and dimension. Your guests eyes will be more likely explore the whole space and notice each detail on its own. At the center of the table was the birthday cake with the added height of the banner on top (found also at Zurchers). Next I added glass apothecary jars of different heights and sizes and filled them with colorful candy and popcorn. What little girl doesn’t love popcorn and candy (am I right!!! 😉 As if that wasn’t enough sweets, I completed the look by adding mini desserts and displayed them on stacked pedestals of different heights.
Place settings serve as anchor points for your guests.
One way to keep from having eight year old girls running all over your house is to let them know where to sit. You can do this by using fun and engaging place settings. Its easy to make custom place mats by using a foam mat and fabric. I found MLP fabric at Hobby Lobby and I hot glued them onto the foam and then trimmed it all with ruffle trim. Top it off with some colorful chargers and a MLP plate & noise maker and there you have it.
Favors can bring your guests into the theme.
For our party each girl got a MLP bucket filled with goodies along with these pony headbands from Zurchers. I found some polka dot gable boxes from Hobby lobby, filled them with a stuffed pony and wrapped them with colorful tulle bows.
When it was all said and done MY little pony and her friends loved the party which made it all worth the effort.
